May 2010

Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the
Panborough Inn, on
Tuesday 4th May 2010

Present: Marty, Kay, Carey, Robert, Elaine, Tony, Nicky, Annie, John D, Stephen and Lou.

Apologies: Alison B (JD apologised for being here!)

Robert opened the meeting at 7.15pm approx.  Carey continues to deputise as Secretary in Rog’s absence.

Minutes of last meeting were read and accepted as a true record.

Account Balance: £1187.43 with nothing due out of the bank for the present month.

Future productions: Still nothing for summer, Carey is looking for 2/3 one act plays for Halloween, Kim is looking for a musically related play for the end of the year, Robert and John C cannot commit to directing until next year due to work commitments and Rog has gone into hiding!!!! The murder mystery is on the shelf as well.

Stephen Blair has donated a vodaphone SIM card for the GADS mobile.

Thanks to all who turned up for the barn clean. It didn’t take too long thanks to the turnout. Thanks also due to Stephen B for going back a week later to clear the paint and to Martin S and John D for allowing him the use of their car & trailer respectively.

John D is happy to take on the making of the GADS website and is after any ideas; we are planning to put Faye’s logo on the website and would be grateful if you could all look at your past photos to see if you have a decent picture of it.  Any ideas on the website should go to John D. It was suggested that we look at the Wedmore website and Tony H said we should have a look at his old group’s website. He will send us a link to it. The acronym GADS as a domain name has already been claimed so, again, can people maybe make a few suggestions.  It was also suggested that the group’s whole name could be changed. Some members were of the opinion that the use of Godney in the name might put people off joining the group thinking they have to live in Godney to be a member! Other members just thought the name was staid and boring. Any ideas for a new name for the group would be discussed at the next meeting.

John D has copies of the Panto At The OK Corral DVD available.

Arrangements have been made for a viewing of See How They Run at Annie & John D’s for Monday 17th May 2010at 8pm.

Village hall worries as SMB has folded and there are only sporadic bookings. GADS may help by putting fund raising events on.  The GADS rep on the VH committee will liaise.

The meeting closed at 7.50pm with the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday1st June 2010.

April 2010

Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the
Panborough Inn, on
Tuesday 6th April 2010

Robert opened the meeting at 7pmish.

Present: John C, Marty, Kay, Carey, Robert, Elaine, Stephen and Lou.

Apologies: Kim, Gerry, Alison B, Nicky, Rog, Annie and John D.

Carey stood in as Secretary and took the minutes.

Minutes of last meeting were read and accepted.

Account Balance: £1367.94 with nothing due out of the bank for the present month.

June production to be postponed as Robert has changed hours of work and there is no one available to take his place. John C is willing to direct next year as his working commitments have also changed, Kim is considering a music type production for Dec-Jan, no reply from Rog and Carey is considering directing for Halloween having just put the panto to rest. Alison B has a murder mystery for us to read.

Carey’s idea for Halloween is 2x 1 act plays 1 for children and 1 for Adults to run over the nearest weekend to Halloween for 3 days.

Robert stressed the importance of playreadings and social events for the group as a way of maintaining contact now that The Sheppey is closed.

Robert was emailed asking if anyone had a samovar that could be borrowed by another theatre group.  After loud bouts of laughter it was suggested that we could give them details on how to make one for themselves!

The container needs to be sprayed on the rubber seals with WD40 every couple of months to keep them supple (perhaps that’s what I need too)! Also there are still a couple of holes in the roof. Marty said he would deal with this. (The container not me!)

Keith’s barn needs to be cleared and it was suggested that April 24th would be a good date for this and Stephen was going to arrange a work party to do so.

The phone that Robert is donating will be used as a BOX OFFICE number but it is in need of a new SIM card Stephen thought that he might have a spare one somewhere as did Carey. If anyone has a spare SIM card to donate it would be appreciated. We also felt that GADS could do with a separate email and website to which someone (Kay I think!) suggested that maybe it would be something John Deeley would be interested in doing now that he has some spare time on his hands!!!

Robert asked if there was any other business (to which I yawned). Meeting was closed!! 7.35 (ish)

March 2010

Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the
Panborough Inn, on
Tuesday 2nd March 2010

Present: Alison, Steve, Rob & Carey, Lou, Chris S, Martin & Kay, Elaine, John C, Meryl Streep aka Nicky, Roger

Apologies
: Gerry

1) Accounts scrutinised and approved.

2) Minutes of previous meeting approved.  Rob added that he had researched various types of murder mystery plays and there were all sorts of possibilities.

3) The Committee resigned and, with the alacrity that would have made a banana republic proud, were promptly re-elected. Thus:
           Artistic Director -     Rob
           Tech Director -        Steve
           Treasurer -             Kay
           Secretary  -            Roger

4) Future Productions: No full production before 29th May therefore looking June/July.
(Elaine warned of timing of election and VH booking)
Firm approval to go ahead with childrens' Halloween production
           (Carey expressed interest)
Then Dec/Jan full production that, please, wouldn't be a
pantomime eg something ghostly or eg Wind in the Willows.

5) New mobile phone bought by Rob to be used as GADS booking office, cutting out the need to recruit pubs etc as ticket outlets.  "Brilliant Idea!" said all.

6) Ticket Prices: Only 57/300 children at the OK Corral which is low proportion. Discussion of kid's booking price being too high. Wide discussion of why some productions high sales and other disappointing.

7) Martin kindly offered to plug hole in container roof.

8) Roger to write to Michael Churches to than him for sponsoring portaloo up to this point.

NEXT MEETING TUES APRIL 6TH PANBOROUGH INN

Feb 2010

Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the
Panborough Inn, on Thursday 4th Feb 2010

Present: Chris, Martin & Kay, Lou, Rob & Carey, Aimee, Steve, Elaine, Nicky, John & Annie, Roger

Apologies: Tony & Alison, Bridget, Kim

1) Rob commended the turn-out for the meeting as the Panborough would hopefully recognise an increase in their bar sales and continue to be amenable to hosting out meetings.

2) Many thanks to Kay for turning in a detailed set of accounts for Panto at the OK Corral copies of which she circulated but put simply the Panto outgoings were £2615 and the income £3223, so that's all right then.

3) Post-Panto comments were invited from cast and crew:

- Carey found the sporadic rehearsal attendance very tricky to cope with.
- There is a dangerous situation with footing backstage when the stage is in blackout. Suggested were LEDs or reflective strip guides.
- Ticket Sales. Let us expand our outlets if poss. eg Tourist Info, Strode, YMCA. Please think seriously about this and offer suggestions
- The new container worked well and Annie has donated a carpet.
- A big vote of thanks to Chris Steadman who manned the bar post-production far beyond the call of duty.
- The outside light socket needs to be fixed.
- We should put together a Stage Manager's Box containing emergency fix-its eg staplegun, gaffer tape, hammer & nails etc to cope with breakages/repairs while a production is actually running.
- Keith's barn will need to be emptied in due course and will require muscle.

4) We will try to emphasise more play-readings as we will surely lose touch with the loss of The Sheppey. Nicky volunteered her house on Thursday 25th Feb at 7.30pm. (By the way this is Lou's birthday)

5) We will look into a summer production.
Carey suggested a short Halloween production for kids with
a party afterwards.
Taking a Murder Mystery to a pub(s) is still a possibilty and the idea has not been passed over.

PANTO DVD will be shown at Annie's on Thursday 18th March at 8pm. Please bring a bottle.

MONTHLY MEETINGS WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAYS.
SO THE AGM WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY 2ND MARCH AT THE PANBOROUGH AT 7PM

Nov 2009

Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney on Thursday 5th November 2009

Present:  Robert, Carey, Stephen B, Kay, Martin P, Tony, Alison H

Apologies:  Roger, Bridget, Elaine

  1. Kay presented the latest accounts for the group.  Current balance is £2,591.00. Bridget has bought boxes for costumes. Payment to SSAFFA still outstanding (£182.64) Robert will find a SSAFFA head office contact with a view to forwarding it to them.

  2. Container. Kay and Martin confirmed the Village Hall committee are happy for us to go ahead with a container purchase. Price from Martin Silburn was similar to that previously received so we will go ahead with the original company – Stephen to follow up
Robert to liaise with Martin H to get the caravans moved.
Kay and Martin to liaise with Chris Steadman to get rid of the weeds where the container will be sited.

  3. Stephen to confirm whether we can take the old paint from Keith’s to the recycling centre.

  4. Martin will email a link to the video of the last production. Kay will speak to John Deeley ref getting a copy on DVD we could show at the pub.

  5. Rehearsals for Panto the OK Corral now well underway. Tickets will be on sale shortly

  6. Once we purchase the container plus the other smaller capital odds (stage etc) we will be down to our ‘reserve’ amount which we need to keep to be able to put on the next production. We will need to work on fundraising for future expenditure – any ideas gratefully received!

Next meeting - Thursday 3rd December 7pm in The Sheppey

Oct 2009

Minutes of the Monthly Meetings of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2009

Present:  Stephen B, Kay & Martin P

Apologies:  Carey, Robert, Roger, John C

  1. Addendum from previous minutes. Refund for Martin Heal was for tickets which had been purchased twice and was already accounted for in stated figures.

  2. Kay presented the latest accounts for the group.  Current balance was £2,591.00 with the one payment still outstanding (£182.64 to SSAFA).

  3. Container. Kay, Martin and Stephen checked the possible location for a container at the side of the Village Hall. We believe there is ample space for a GADS container and a subsequent Village Hall one at a later date. The proposal is for GADS to purchase a container and keep the stage in it initially and then when the Village Hall have the funds to buy another to use that for the stage and the GADS one for other items. We have measured the stage, plus the proposed additional pieces, and believe that a single 20’ container will effectively be completely filled by it.
Kay and Martin will check with Martin Silburn to see if he can source a container at a better price than the quote we currently have.

  4. Keith Burt would like the GADS bits in his barn tidied. Kay will check what paint is there with a view to getting rid of what is no good (most of it?). Once we have a container for the stage we believe the flats etc will be able to be stored in the area currently being used by the stage.

  5. New stage bits (side and corner by the bar) – we will look at these in detail once we start rehearsing the next production. Tarpaulin for outside when productions are on  – we will look at the requirements once the container is in place

  6. Fiann O’Hagan has produced a video of the last production. Martin is organising getting a copy.

  7. The next production has now been confirmed as the Pantomime at the OK Corral. Rehearsals start Tuesday 6th October 7pm at the village hall.

Next meeting - Thursday 5th November 7pm in The Sheppey

Sept 2009

Minutes of the Monthly Meetings of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney at 7pm on Thursday 3rd September 2009

Present: Steve B, Rob & Carey, Roger, Lou, Elaine, Kay, John C, Bridget.
Apologies: Tony Hunt, Sarah Stott

- Many thanks to Kay who submitted detailed accounts for Julius & Cleopatra and The Cherry Sisters. Expenses amounted to £775.70 while the Income from ticket/programme sales and bar sales was £1062.05 which meant a pleasing profit particularly for a usually loss-leading summer show. All is well with the World.

- The Pantomime now firmly fixed will be dress-rehearsed and performed in the week beginning 18th January 2010.

- Steve to liaise with Village Hall Committee who are also in favour of purchasing a storage container to be kept at the VH.

- Kay will refund Martin Heal for photos for which he paid twice.

- Well done to Elaine and Bridget who have done a serious sort out of costumes and accessories. It was agreed they could spend up to £100 to purchase plastic storage boxes.

Next meeting 7pm Sheppey Thursday 1st Oct

Apr 2009

Minutes of the Monthly Meetings of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney at 7pm on Thursday 2nd April 2009

Members present: Robert, John C, Stephen, Kay, Martin P, Elaine & Lou
Apologies: Rog, Nicky, Carey, Tony

Robert opened the meeting sometime before it closed.

ITEM 1 – PREVIOUS MINUTES
Robert welcomed Kay to the committee as she had been elected in absentia. She was delighted to receive copious notes, files and folders from Gary via Elaine as she assumed the role of Treasurer.  There were two items of business outstanding for her to complete being cheques to be sent to SSAFA and St Margaret’s Hospice.  She would also arrange changes to the account signatories if necessary, hopefully before Gary & Elaine retire to the Bahamas.

ITEM 2 – NEXT PRODUCTION
It was decided to set the dates for the next production (16/17/18 Jul 09) with John C hoping to direct Outside Edge, a comedy by Richard Harris.  However, if this could not be cast other suggestions included the coarse acting one-act spoofs or a thriller.  All would depend on who was available.  Robert is to send an email informing members of this and asking for names of those interested and is to confirm VH availability.ITEM 3 – PLAYREADINGS
John C is going to present the next Playreading on Mon 13th Apr 09 in the skittle alley of the Sheppey Inn commencing at 7pm.  The play being read will be Pride at Southanger Park, a spoof on Jane Austen.  That is if Robert can find John’s script and return it to him in time for him to photocopy it.  If not the play will be something else!

ITEM 4 – MURDER MYSTERIES
There was interest in the group performing murder mysteries either in the VH, The Sheppey or other local venues as a form of fundraiser.  These are presented after minimal rehearsal with scripts in hand.  Elaine is going to supply Robert with an email address of a Murder Mystery company that scripts are available from.

ITEM 5 – DUCK RACE
Robert asked if any members would be interested in resurrecting the Duck Race, again as a fundraiser.  There was a degree of interest but Elaine suggested that it be more of a village events day remembering past fiascos with river flow i.e. there should be more for the public than just a Duck Race. Robert would see if he could get a team together to arrange an event.

ITEM 6 - WISH LIST
Stephen mentioned the wish list but we seemed to get bogged down discussing the VH.  Basically he is looking for ideas to improve GADS’s facilities.  Anyone with spiffing ideas should let him know even if they think their ideas are old hat.

Robert reminded members that the next meeting would be on Thu 7th May 09 in The Sheppey Inn at 7pm.  He closed the meeting sometime after it opened.

Present: Steve B, Carey, Lou, Nickey,Martin P, John C, Rob, Roger
Apologies: Kay P, Gary & Elaine, Annie & John

  • Gary and Kim resigned their positions on the committee and many thanks to them for their roles over the last twelve months.  Kay Pennycott was elected as Treasurer and Steve Blair as Technical Director.  Rob was re-elected as Artistic Director and Chair, Roger as Secretary.

  • The accounts from March 2008 were submitted by Gary and approved.  No profit was made over that time and a small loss (£44.15) was recorded

  • GADS would like to make a donation (to St Margaret's Hospice?) in memory of Dick Amos.

Please note that Committee Meetings will now take place on the FIRST THURSDAY of each month.  NEXT MEETING THURSDAY 2ND APRIL 7pm Sheppey Inn.

Feb 2009

Minutes of the Monthly Meetings of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney at 7pm on Wed 4th Feb 2009

On 4th Feb at a very brief meeting, attended by Rob & Carey, Roger, John C and Martin P (apologies from Steve), Martin P revealed that the Village Hall Committee has ear-marked Saturdays 7th or 14th March as a time when volunteers are asked to help clear and rationalize the contents of the cupboards in the roof space of the hall.  Keith Burt may supply a trailer for junk.

AGM Wed 4th March 7pm Sheppey Inn

Agenda so far:

  • Treasurer's Report (Gary)

  • Capital expenditure suggestions (collated Kim)

  • Items from the minutes of the last 12 months' meetings which were put forward as good ideas but not followed up

  • ELECTION OF NEW COMMITTEE for next 12 months

  • aob

Jan 2009

Minutes of the Monthly Meetings of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney at 7pm on Wednesday 7th January 2009

Present: Rob, Steve B, Nicky, Martin & Kay, John C, Roger
Apologies:  Elaine & Gary

1)   Martin & Kay (as Village Hall Committee members) filled us in on the details of the possible sound-proofing of the Village Hall; the sound-proofing to extend from eaves to apex along the length of the hall.  GADS foresaw possible problems with the scaffolding stage structure, but acknowledged advantages of improved acoustics. Also this might be an opportunity to route cabling from the back of the hall to the stage within the roof space.

2)  Steve B will liaise with the VH Committee to sort out and clear the cupboards in the overhead loft space.

3)  Future productions:
    i) Rehearsals for Before Dawn will recommence soon, with a performance date to be decided but certainly before Easter.
ii) IMPORTANTCinderella by Michael Green is mostly cast in theory but there are some people who have said 'Yes' in principle but so far have given no firm commitment.  This is a short, very funny play (20 mins) with no particularly difficult part in terms of learning lines, although there is quite a lot of Farndale-esque business which will need to be slickly rehearsed. Rehearsals will be once a week on either Sunday or Wednesday evening. Rob needs to know urgently if you are committed or this production will not take place (which will also rather isolate Before Dawn).

**NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN TO COME TO THE AID OF THE PARTY**

The next meeting will be on Wed. 4th February 2009, Sheppey Inn

Dec 2008

Minutes of the Monthly Meetings of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney at 7pm on Wednesday 5th Nov 2008 and Wed 3rd Dec 2008

....and a Happy New Year to you all.....

I am combining two lots of minutes in one for reasons of space, reticence, global warming, Secretarial incompetence, credit crunch.....

Meeting 5th November
Present: Rob, Steve B, John C, Roger, Kim, Lou
Apologies: John & Annie, Pete P, Bridget, Martin H, Tony, Gerry, Martin & Kay

1) Rob suggested that we publish possible future production schedules up to a year in advance. EG something in February (one-acters, say), a full-length play in June and something seasonal in November.  Players could then choose productions and avoid being involved in two, three or four back to back productions which causes them to drop out completely because they're knackered by the whole business.  Also those interested in producing might be better able to pick their moment.

2) Kim suggested that as far as play readings went (usually held after the monthly Wednesday meeting) maybe we should be a bit less democratic and actually ask specific people to come and read a particular part in a forthcoming reading, rather than rely on whoever happens to turn up on that evening.  This would give the play-readings a bit more weight and structure.  No obligation to commit beyond that, of course.

The assembled company then read The Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo and bloody well, I thought.

Meeting 3rd December
Present: Rob, John & Annie, John C, Kim, Martin & Kay, Roger
Apologies:

1) The Committee approved the spending of £219.52 to cover this year's Insurance, and £15 for our annual subscription to Somerset Fellowship of Drama.  Roger will ask the Treasurer to send the cheques, please.

2) Rob said that Before Dawn by Terence Rattigan was already in production for sometime in Feb/March. As a forty-minute one-Acter, we would need another short to complete a worthwhile programme. Cinderella, a short very funny spoof by Michael Green a la Farndale, is a favourite but unusually we're short of actresses to fully cast this. Help!

And that was it. The meeting descended into a welter of luvviness, dahlings, air kisses and camp banter.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday 7th January, Sheppey Inn 7pm

 May 2008

Minutes of the Monthly Meeting of Godney Amateur Dramatic Society held in the Sheppey Inn, Godney at 7pm on Wednesday 7th May 2008

Present: Robert Best (Chair), John Deeley, Annie Deeley, Stephen Blair, Kay Pennycott, Martin Pennycott, Chris Steadman

The meeting opened at 7pm-ish and again there was a dearth of committee members. As such not a great deal could be discussed and certainly no fiscal matters as no-one present had a clue as to the financial state of the group! Matters outstanding from previous meetings were therefore still listed as outstanding.

Robert corrected a statement made at a previous meeting regarding the accounting skills of Annie & Chris inferring a lack of attention to detail on their part. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Perish the thought!

Robert reported that things were going to plan with the next Production although there was an unfortunate clash of dates with events at Godney Farm. There was to be a Production Meeting straight after the monthly meeting for those interested.

Closing the meeting Robert reminded those present that the next meeting would be held in The Sheppey at 7pm Wed 4 Jun 08.
