Starling Spectacular Each autumn, several million starlings arrive at the Somerset levels. They migrate from Northern Europe to survive the winter in our relatively mild climate. They start to arrive in the late summer but are at their most numerous from October onwards. They spend the winter on the Somerset levels wetlands where they feed all day and roost at night. From October, around dusk, huge swarms of starlings can be seen flying over Godney to roost amongst the reed beds at Westhay and Shapwick. Lynne Newton has photographed the starlings over many years to show the amazing aerial formations that take place at dawn and dusk. During the starling season she runs a log on her website letting people know where they can spot the starlings going to roost and posts a new picture almost every day. It is definitely checking out her site as there are loads of great photos. Lynne's cards and prints are available from her website, and from Gallery Eight in Glastonbury, Wells Cathedral shop and Absolute Cards in Wells. She is happy for people to contact her on 01458 446373 or through the website.
